CHAPTER 10
EDWARD
16 JUNE 1415
Godâs teeth!
Did she just invite me to sin? Did she even know what I could do to her? Did she want to see the animal in me?
Stop, Edward! Youâll kill her.
I didnât want to, but the temptation to allow my beast to surface was too much to resist, and she was too sinful to hold on to that temptation. I had already bridled so many emotions for the past four days. Every wicked kiss, every shameless touch was worthy of sin. I wanted to be sinful with her...I wanted to forget everything and dive into this lust. If this was my Hell, so be it. I would take her to Hell with me since she had just agreed to it.
To hell with Heaven!
Tonight, Iâll show her what this monster is capable of. She had seen my curse, and now sheâll see the animal in me. This animal would show her how it was to hunt and be hunted. She would be my prey tonight if that is what she wanted.
Divesting my moral values, I followed her back and found her in the dressing chamber. She was struggling with the strings on her back, unable to untie them. How did she tie them in the morning?
My body was already set on fire with the desire to touch her skin. She was a delicious and forbidden fruitâimpossible for me to resist. I walked closer to her when her body acknowledged my presence.
Did she know how fine she looked in this teal silk dress?
Did she know how mesmerising she looked standing by the mirror in the chapel?
Did she know how much I struggled with my feelings when I was teaching her archery today?
Did she know the damage she was doing to me when she started crying with fear?
Did she know how many bricks she has wrecked around my tomb?
Did she know I was at war with my feelings inside my heart?
A charged silence ensued. Every part of the chamber was aware of the heat between us. When she felt my presence, she stopped struggling with the strings. Did she expect me to undress her? Indeed, she did. I had told her it would only be me whoâd undress her from now on. There would be no chambermaid for her till she was in my protection. I would never allow anyone to touch her besides me.
I pushed her hair to one side, allowing her beautiful neck to be on display. Did she know what a fine neck she had? She reminded me of a poetâs dream, in le Roman de la Rose, where he met Idleness. Yes, she was indeed an intimate acquaintance of Diversion. I hated to agree, but my father was right.
I began to recite the poem to her.
âNâavoit jusquâen Jherusalen,
Fame qui plus biau col protest,
Polis iert et soef au tast.â
From here to Jerusalem,
No woman has a more beautiful neck;
It was smooth and soft to the touch.
